Use of CAD LAB
Please tick the following statements to acknowledge that you have read and understood them accordingly:
Facility Hygiene:
Eating and drinking is prohibited.
No smoking or vaping in class.
Use of Computers:
No work to be left on any of the computers. If a computer crashes or needs to be updated, you will lose the work that was saved on that computer.
Saving work: We would suggest that you make use of 2 USB’s / hard drives. One to use on campus, and one for backing up your work at the end of each week. Saving and backing up work correctly is the responsibility of the student.
Students should be able to work seamlessly between computers as their work should always be on an external drive. You are therefore not permitted to reserve a computer.
If you login into a computer be sure to log out after your session.
Lab Operations:
It is your responsibility to take notes during CAD classes. Please bring your notebook to all contact and non-contact sessions. Support material should be printed and placed into your notebooks. The CAD assistant will not assist you without proof of notes.
If there is class in session, you are allowed to work on an available computer without disrupting the class.
If you choose to listen to music during non-contact hours, please do so using earphones. Playing loud music is prohibited.
Use of Server:
The server is the main submission space for your CAD and Design projects.
Once you have uploaded your work to the server, you need to do the following: a. Check the file size. If your file is 0kb it means that it did not copy correctly. b. Open it from the server to check that you have copied the correct file and that the file is working properly.
You may be instructed to submit your files via OneDrive during the year. Please save your files with an appropriate name and follow the instructions given.
Student resources: Never work on a file directly from the server. Please copy the file to an external device before opening it.
Work should be placed in the allocated folders only. Work placed in incorrect folders will be deleted. a. Final submissions to be placed in the following folder: Projects > ! Submissions > CAD & Design > Programme/Year folder > Project folder > Final submissions > Your folder. b. Daily exercises to be placed in the following folder: Final submissions to be placed in the following folder: Projects > ! Submissions > CAD & Design > Programme/Year folder > Project folder > Daily exercises > Day > Your folder.
Placing the incorrect item on the server:
If you need to remove something from the server, you need to send an email to Damian (damian@elizabethgalloway.co.za) or Charlotte (charlotte@elizabethgalloway.co.za) with a request for assistance. Lecturers, students and assistants do not have permission to remove files from the server.
