Mozambique
In 2010 DDB and Sirius production invited Elizabeth Galloway to present a series of interactive workshops in Maputo, Mozambique. Partnering with DDB the sub-Saharan power group in communications, promotion and marketing, we were able to present a series of 2 day workshops that aim to promote – Quality in Craftsmanship as the cornerstone to a successful fashion industry. Our staff are laying an active role in informal fashion design education in Maputo.
DDB Mozambique is the convener of Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW) which is presented in December. As part of the briefing towards these ramp presentations, Elizabeth Galloway runs a series of workshops in July each year to ready Maputo’s designers. The workshops cover everything from design development, to pattern drafting, quality construction and presentation. These workshops are a great way to enrich and educate designers in a country that offers no formal apparel design courses. Elizabeth Galloway has been invited to adjudicate the Emerging Creative Designers at MFW 2011.
The designers we have had the privilege of working with, are showing a keen interest in developing their local clothing industry, with a blend of their Portuguese heritage and strong Swahili, Shona and Makhuwa roots.
