Elizabeth Malherbe

1961 – 2023

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Elizabeth.

Feeling grateful for the women you were – our mother, our mentor, our friend.

Our memories of you will never fade, such is the impact you have had on our lives and all those who have passed through the Academy doors.

You are recognised for your dedication, innovation and mastery in creative education, fashion design, clothing production and crafting fields, but you will be remembered by all for the kindness and empathy you selflessly offered everyone under your guidance.

From the beginning of your endeavours as a Fashion educator you have always had others best interests at heart, with your main aim for starting the Academy being the upliftment of women so that they in turn gained confidence, independence, and the ability to take care of their families as you took care of yours. It is this holistic approach that set you aside from the rest.

Over the years you became a true master of your craft, it was an affair of fascination and intrigue attending your pattern making or production classes, your ability to explain, demonstrate and impart knowledge was golden, and all your students over the last 27 years can feel privileged that they got to experience a master at work.

The loyalty of your staff is testament to your caring, patient approach, we are grateful to be apart of this family you have created – you know you have done something special when your staff enjoy coming to work and spending time together. We thank you for caring for each of us, always encouraging us and pushing us to be better versions of ourselves. We will live and work each day to uphold your legacy and the preservation of your traditions.

Your beautiful soul has left lasting impressions and our shared human journey leaves a trail of beautiful memories – your presence will forever be missed.
