The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event in benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, and marks the grand opening of their annual fashion exhibition. Held at the Met since 1946, the gala is one of the most exclusive events on the New York social calendar and arguably the most notable source of funding for the Institute. In 2013 $9mil was raised, and a record $12mil the following year.
Personalities from the arts, fashion, high-society, film and music attend what has come to be regarded as the fashion industry’s premier red carpet occasion, with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour overseeing both the benefit committee and the guest list.
Guests are expected to dress to match the theme of the year’s exhibit. For 2015, this is China: Through the Looking Glass.
Here are pictures from the event, which took place on Monday the 4th of May. Clearly there were quite diverse interpretations of the theme!
