This year second year students entered the SAFW Student Competitions 2014: THE GREAT WHITE SHIRT.
The brief was to transform the classic white shirt into a high quality, long-lasting garment that is also sustainable.
Leading washing detergent brand Skip has partnered with the competition, and entrants were required to wash their garment with Skip Fiber Protect Liquid before handing it to the judges. They also had to design an accompanying swing tag label.
Three EGAFD students, Alexia Hechter, Andrea Jacobs and Lynmarie du Toit, are among the ten finalists, who will have their designs exhibited in an installation at the annual SAFW Pop Up Shop 2014 in Brooklyn Mall, where the winner will be announced on the 30th August 2014.
The winner will gain a 2-week internship with designer Clive Rundle, who is one of the judges. Other prizes include a cash prize of R10 000, new equipment worth R15 000 for their college, and a VIP experience at SA Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2015 Collections in October.
Meanwhile, a fourth Elizabeth Galloway student, Candace Byrne, has so impressed Korbla Kdotsi of Shirt&Co. with her work, that he has invited her to intern under his direction at Shirt&Co.
Well done ladies, we at Elizabeth Galloway are extremely proud of your achievements.
